The Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill is a beacon of hope for families experiencing what may well be one of the worst times they will ever know. From a warm place to rest to something more tangible, like a community of people who know how they feel, who can share their experiences and support during the tough times. It’s here where family and community flourish, everybody helping, reaching for one another to offer the kind of caring found only in one special place.

With 30 bedrooms, the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill has provided more than 100,000 nights of lodging since opening in 1988. It is a safe and comfortable home to families with children undergoing treatment at area hospitals.

The McNeil Family

There is no one more courageous than young Christian McNeil. At the delicate age of eight, he has already spent three years battling a serious illness with strength and courage. Christian’s journey began in 2003 when he started running a fever of 104 degrees. ER doctors treated the fever with Motrin and sent the family back home. After three weeks with no improvement, again consulted a doctor. Christian was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. For the next four months he underwent chemo treatments and he stayed in the ICU for several months. Christian’s battle continued in May 2005 when his parents, Ervin and Michelle, brought him to UNC Hospitals so that he could receive two bone marrow transplants. Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital fighting swelling, infection and viruses. The McNeils moved in from Wilson, N.C. in May 2005 and here at the Ronald McDonald House they have found the safety and support they needed to make it through some very difficult times.
